Ocean Terminal

We were the first port of call when ABP embarked on a new passenger terminal.

Southampton’s new Ocean Terminal was created by Associated British Ports as part of a 20-year contract with Carnival UK, owner of some of the world’s most famous cruise liners.

To help maximise return on this investment, Gleeds was asked to provide first-class cost management services.

Costs that stayed low

We applied our extensive experience to minimise waste at every stage of the process that resulted in a vast, simple and elegant two-storey building with room for:

  • 4,000 people
  • 1,200 seats
  • A 350ft-long baggage hall
  • 40 check-in desks
  • X-ray facilities

terminal, which was was built on an existing brownfield site within the Port of Southampton.

Walkways that move up and down

The development also involved major ground works, external parking, offloading areas and mobile walkways that move up and down with the tide, enabling passengers to move between the terminal and ship.
